Project no.1 | High School+ for Adult Learners
Linear eLearning Course
This is an eLearning module created in Canvas for a High School+ program for adult learners.

Audience:
Adults pursuing their High School diploma

Responsibilities:
Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Graphic Design, Storyboard, and Mockups

Tools Used:
Canvas, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat Pro

Project Overview
This is a one-credit course totaling 30 hours of instruction.
The clients are a local correctional facility and a local community college.
This eLearning course has been adapted from an in-person, synchronous format offered at a community college to a completely online, asynchronous course offered in a correctional facility.

Process
I designed and developed this eLearning module from start to finish. I created a course outline, designed virtual mockups, developed an interactive prototype and developed the final product.
All steps were vetted and passed by the SMEs who worked with me on this project.

I interviewed stakeholders and identified the unique learner population and unique learning setting. I interviewed students and listened to their unique user experiences and applied this information in the course creation process.

Course Design: Backward Design
Using a backward design approach, I used the course outcomes to create objectives and tasks. Next, I created a course outline and then a module outline and submitted it for review.

Learning Approach: Universal Design for Learning
In order to create a more equitable learning environment, each task includes at least three options for learners to show they have met the unit objectives and course outcomes. Learners have the option to complete a quiz, a written assignment, or an oral presentation/exam.

Visual Mockups
Using Adobe Illustrator, I developed visual mockups for course branding that included the correctional facility branding and the community college branding.
I selected the color scheme and font based on the college’s brand and visual identity standards. I designed custom buttons using agency brand standards and applying WCAG rules of accessibility for color and contrast.

Templates
Next, I created course templates for each type of Canvas page. I used brand colors and brand images to personalize the Canvas pages.

The Final Product
After receiving feedback from student-tutors and stakeholders, I made several revisions.
I used chunking to break down information into bite-sized pieces, so information is more easily digested and retained.
I created a PDF of all learning material so the instructor can print out items when students don’t have access to the classroom.
I created rubrics for assignments and quiz bank questions so that instructors can choose which and how many questions they would like to use to test students.

Accessibility
As I developed each module, I applied accessibility features like closed captioning, transcripts, WCAG Color contrast requirements, alt text for images, and PDF remediation.
